“New York Trio” is out now on “Intakt Records”. Angelika Niescier (alto saxophone), Christopher Tordini (bass), Jonathan Finlayson (trumpet) and Gerald Cleaver (drums) had recorded this album. These musicians are famous improvisers – they’re the central figures of international avant-garde jazz scene for many years now. Their music is especially bright, filled with innovations, original ways of playing, rich musical language and exceptional instrumentation. The collaborations, projects with other jazz masters, tours in other countries, concerts and performances all over the world are the main activities of these improvisers. Each of them is original and innovative – expressive playing manner, unique sound, driving, touchign and vibrant style are the fundaments of their music. All music is based on synthesis of various jazz styles – avant-garde, experimental jazz and free improvisation are connected to bebop, hard bop and other modern jazz styles. The experiments on various fields of musical language are very frequent – improvisers are getting on brave adventures, research of strange timbres, new and innovative ways of playing and expanding the technical abilities of their instruments. Finally it makes a great result – expressive and dynamic free improvisations filled with drive, joy and pleasure.

The compositions of “New York Trio” are based on avant-garde jazz and free improvisations. The main elements of experimental jazz, as well as cool, bebop, post bop, hard bop and other modern jazz styles. Huge range of different jazz styles is used here – it makes an effort to original, multi-layed, colorful and wavy musical pattern. Rich musical language is formed from dozens of expressions, sound’s experiments, new and innovative playing techniques, original ways of playing, bordering dynamics and spontaneous solos. Stunning experiments, research of strange timbres, extraction of huge range of emotions and original improvisational decisions also makes an effort to impressive and vital sound. All musicians are experienced, talented and ambitious – the music is full of surprises, dynamic turns, colorful stylistic waves and contrasting pieces all joined together. Alto saxophone is full of interesting ideas and original decisions. Its free improvisations have free and abstract structure, open form and is effected by some composers of contemporary academical music. Conplicated, conflictic, multi-layed and sparkling musical pattern is filled with strange tunes, fascinating experiments and different modes of playing. Saxophonist manages to combine together experiments, innovations and some ideas of John Cage’s music all together with wild, sharp and expressive bebop, stable and calm cool and other elements. Vivid melodies are joined to roaring riffs, blowing and terrific blow outs, minimalistic, ascetic or depressive samples, some repetitive and monotonic piece, dizzy passages, gorgeous elements, textures and original instrumentation. Saxophone is the source of evocative ideas, strange tunes and original decisions. Trumpet brings in wildness, bursting and scandalous sound. Sharp, luminous and thrilling solos, tremendous, wild and passionate riffs, driving melodies all conncected to abstract improvisations, free and spontaneous samples, sudden stylistic waves, impressions, emotions, dizzy and furiously fast passages, and other similar elements. Trumpet keeps the main tune of melodic line, it also gives the main tune to the improvisations. Avant-garde and experimental jazz are the basics of the trumpet’s improvisations – it’s an essential and fundamental base of each improvisation, who’s related to some tunes of bebop, post bop and other modern jazz styles. Rhythmic section is consisted from bass and drums. Subtle and deep tunes of bass contain solid and interesting bass line. Deep, heavy and tight tunes, repetitive and breaking sessions are contrasting to tremendous, passionate and expressive culminations with hot spills, powerful blasts of energy, sharp stitches and dramatic solos. Drums section is formed from all types of rhythms – complicated and expressive rhythms of bebop, aggressive hard bop meet cool, stable and monotonic beats, and finally go straight to blasting, powerful, tremendous and expressive free improvisations. This album is real piece of cake – it’s a pleasure to listen to glamorous, interesting, innovative and stunning sound made by four great jazz masters.
