“After A Few Days” was released on April 2, 2018. Album was recorded by creative and innovative jazz masters trio “J@K@L” – it’s Keefe Jackson (tenor & sopranino saxophone, tube), Fred Lonberg-Holm (cello, tenor guitar, electronics) and Julian Kirshner (drums). The trio compositions are based on free improvisations, which are especially energetic, active, rapid and expressive. Musicians are improvising free, try out evocative and interesting musical decisions, extract new and unusual timbres. Musicians pay the highest attention to the search of weird sounds, new and extended playing techniques, eclectic and original combinations of music styles and expressions. Expressive, free, harsh and energetic melodies, virtuosic and fast solos, spontaneous and rigorous improvisations, turbulent and dramatic excerpts and many other elements of musical language. All three musicians are improvising differently from each other. Each of them try out individual and shocking ways of playing, extended and innovative expressions and express huge range of emotions and feelings. Their melodies all the time get together in one place and make vivid, energetic and interesting sound.
“After A Few Days” has especially energetic and rapid sound, rigorous and expressive playing manner and is based on collective improvisations. Free, spontaneous, dynamic and contrasting collective improvisations by all three musicians are filled with innovative musical decisions, extended playing techniques and evocative musical language. Keefe Jackson saxophone solos are very vivid, live and vivacious. Improviser try out many different playing techniques, expressions and extract new and weird timbres. Keefe Jackson saxophone and tube improvisations are especially energetic and rapid. Musician tries out many extended playing techniques, twists between fascinating musical experiments, free and spontaneous improvisations, expressive, rapid and dynamic modern jazz excerpts and various experimental jazz styles. Virtuosic and extremely fast solos, full of vivacious, striking, bright and powerful blow outs, rapid passages, colorful glissando and other ways of playing are organically and gently combined together. Musician synthesizes together various contrasting moods, searches for new and unusual ways of playing. Bright, turbulent and shrieky blow outs, powerful roaring, sharp and harsh sound, energetic and vibrant riffs, dramatic culminations and spontaneous solos are combined together with soft, subtle and silent improvisations. Keefe Jackson improvisations have unique and specific sound, are based on eclectic and interesting combinations and make an effort to whole sound. Solid, deep and static tuba bass line creates firm rhythmic background. Fred Lonberg-Holm cello and guitar melodies are especially moody and expressive. Musician tries out new ways of playing, twist together all kinds of rhythms, scales, harmonies, chords and other elements of musical language. He also controlls the electronics and masterfully combines synthetic, harsh and unusual sounds with soft, natural, vivid and unpredictable acoustic instruments. His improvisations are based on masterful virtuosity, inventive musical decisions and colorful twists. Specific playing manners, unique and traditional ways of playing, joyful, lengthy and expressive solos are joined together with depressive, harsh, loud and aggressive episodes or very soft, calm and relaxing pieces. The most interesting pieces of his improvisations are the collective improvisations – that’s the episodes there together meets classical and experimental playing techniques, different scales and chords, separate melodic elements which are colorfully illustrated with unusual and weird sounds and many other elements. The pleasant and organic synthesis between all these elements bring evocative and interesting sound. Julian Kirshner drums are especially energetic, harsh, active, aggressive and sharp. It’s mostly based on spontaneous and moody improvisations, experimental ways of playing, huge range of different expressions, rhythms, tempos, playing techniques and dynamics. The elements of modern and experimental jazz styles are effectively combined together. For the most of the time, the improvisations by Julian Kirschner are especially dynamic, turbulent, vibrant, powerful and harsh and have effective and interesting sound. All three musicians are improvising outstandingly and creatively – their music is full of unpredictable stylistic waves, gorgeous turns and has an innovative and interesting sound.
