“Nature Work” is out now on “Sunnyside Records”. The album is a great collaboration of four featured jazz masters – Jason Stein (bass clarinet), Greg Ward (alto saxophone), Eric Revis (bass) and Jim Black (drums). All the music is totally based on avant-garde jazz and free improvisation. The musicians are dedicated to create something new – that’s why their music is filled with interesting combos, exciting and rich musical language, modern expressions, innovative and fresh instrumental section and stunning sonoristic experiments. Jason Stein is a great clarinetist – his music is a mix of energy, drive, expression and original decisions. Improviser has suggestive, hypnotising and emotional playing technique which makes an effort to aggressive, sharp, frantic and thrilling mood. Excellent saxophonist Greg Ward is experimenting on all forms, expressions and fields of musical language. He’s mixing up experimental and modern jazz styles, making interesting and unexpected stylistic allusions, extracting rare tunes and finally succesfully manages to create original and inspiring sound. Sound experiments, special effects, research of extended playing techniques, imitated tunes and the integration of innovations of experimental jazz – that’s the main priorities of Eric Revis music. Drummer Jim Black is the master of his art – he has expressive, exciting and inspiring sound, vital and driving playing manner and impressive virtuosity.

“Nature Work” has all the main basics of avant-garde and experimental jazz. The music is bright, full of impressive riffs and spontaneous solos. Musicians are making the interesting, unusual or provocative stylistic allusions – hysteric hard bop, aggressive, nervous and complicated bebop, calm relaxing cool or modern mainstrean jazz are combined to frantic free improvisations, luminous culminations and innovative ideas of experimental jazz. All compositions have a synthesized open form and rich musical language. Universal variety of musical language’s elements form an independent, bright and enchanting musical pattern. Saxophone tunes by Greg Ward are played in active, energetic and driving mood. Improviser forms his music on the basics of experimental and modern jazz. Inspiring melodies, thrilling striking riffs, roaring, tremendous and perturbating blow outs, full vibrant bursts of energy – these are the basics of saxophone’s improvisations. Remarkable and impressive solos gently correspond to dizzy passages, glimpsing, sparkling and gorgeous ornaments, special effects and sound experiments. Saxophone brings the energy and drive to whole album – it makes a stable, bright and impressive melody line. Thrilling, blowing and exciting saxophone’s tunes gently fit together with other instruments. Bass clarinet by Jason Stein is a mix of deep, modest, solemn and calm sound. Stable, meditative and repetitive series make an effort to tight bass line. Improviser is trying to make an expansion of technical abilities, research original and specific ways of playing, integrate special effects and strange timbres to the musical pattern. The music is contrasting and dynamic – heavy, deep, solemn and relaxing contemplations are changed by blowing, passionate, driving, roaring, wild, or frustrating, frantic and sharp culminations. All music is made with love and drive – Jason Stein has a remarkable style, expressive and vivid playing technique and wide musical knownledge. His music is filled with sound experiments, silent pauses who meet sparkling and fantastic culminations. Bass improvisations by Eric Revis are completely based on experimental and avant-garde jazz. Bassist manages to create innovative and suggestive sound by using repetitive series, fascinating sound experiments, integration of exotic or rare ways of playing, exciting ideas and radical decisions. Vibrant riffs, powerful bursting culminations, stable bass line, frustrating, aggressive, sharp and frantic riffs, dizzy flowing passages, enchanting solos, driving sessions are gently brought together. Rhythmic section is as much exciting and innovative as melody line. Spontaneous solos and wild free improvisations contain the basics of it. Complicated, hysteric, nervous and expressive rhythms of bebop, aggressive and breaking hard bop, modern and unpredictable post bop, relaxing and calm cool or dynamic rhythms of contemporary or mainstream jazz. All these elements are gently brought together with expression, wide musical knownledge, fantastic virtuosity of drummer Jim Black. The music of this album has innovative, surprising and original sound.
