“After Caroline” was released by “Northern Spy”. Album was recorded by “Jason Stein’s Locksmith Isidore” – it’s Jason Stein (bass clarinet), Jason Roebke (bass) and Mike Pride (drums). These three musicians are interesting and inventive jazz masters. Their music is played and improvised with passion and expression – it’s full of inventive msuical decisions, colorful and modern instrumentation, sudden stylistic chanhes and eclectic combinations between various jazz styles. From traditional jazz to moving, expressive and free avant-garde jazz – that’s how we could describe their music. Avant-garde jazz, free jazz, various intonations of creative and experimental jazz are the basics of the compositions. It’s gently gused together with bebop, hard-bop, post bop, neo bop, cool and other modern and contemporary jazz styles. The intonations of swing and other traditional jazz styles also are heard very much, especially in rhythmic section. Basic forms, rhythms and expressions of various jazz styles are organically blended together. Musicians are travelling between romantic and light solos, calm and subtle episodes, abstract and silent musical experiments and turbulent, expressive and moving collective improvisations. All these elements create gorgeous, interesting and impressive sound.

The compositions are very expressive and dynamic, full of sudden and colorful surprises and changes. Light and joyful solos with simple musical pattern and quadratic form are fused together with expressive, passionate, spontaneous and frantic free improvisations. The main elements of avant-garde jazz, bebop, post-bop, hard bop, other modern jazz styles are very much used here. Dynamic, rapid and moving rhythmic is used as a pur element or is mixed with other styles rhythms. The melodies ususally are the sets of various jazz styles – remarkable, impressive and passionate solos are contrasting with simple, calm and relaxing melodies, which create a relation with traditional jazz and swing. Marvelous synthesis of jazz styles makes an effort to whole sound and reveals the main elements of musician’s improvising style. It shows their talent inventively and organically fuse together music elements and styles, which are the opposites to each other. Bass clarinet melodies create bright and loud melodic pattern and make energetic sound of the album. Effective, vibrant and contarsting solos are the most effective elements of these improvisations. Remarkable solos, expressive and touching melodies, rapid and vibrant blow outs, energetic and powerful bursts of energy are fused together and create impressive sound. Jason Roebke bass melodies are moving and evocative. Wide range of extended playing techniques, rich variety of different and modern musical expressions, sudden stylistic changes and eclectic combinations of timbres, sounds, tones and other intonations – all these elements are the most important and effective musical language elements. Bass improvisations are based on contrasts – it has whole wide palette of different moods, colors and characters. Brave and innovative experiments, extraction of unusual timbres, original and inventive musical decisions and expressive playing manner contain the basics of Jason Roebke playing style. Deep and rigorous tones, repetitive and strong bass line, monotonic rhythmic, separate tones and sounds – these elements are gently connected with moving, expressive, rapid, passionate and evocative solos, which are created spontaneously. Mike Pride drums section is based on synthesis between huge range of jazz styles. The main rhythms of swing, traditional jazz, piano jazz, boogie woogie, bebop, post-bop, hard bop, cool and other similar modern jazz styles rhythmics are blended together with free, innovative and evocative improvisations. Loud and astonishing drum rolls, vibrant and free solos, expressive and energetic episodes, vivacious and vivid arpeggios, passages, glissando and other simple playing techniques are connected with experimental ways of playing. This album is based on marvelous synthesis of traditional, modern and experimental jazz styles – absolutely different music elements are masterfully mixed together and make an effort to original and impressive sound.
