“Canzoni de Primavera” was released on March, 20 by “Wig Records”. Album was recorded by Ab Baars (tenor sax, clarinet, shakuhachi) and Ig Henneman (viola). Both musicians create and play the compositions which are based on synthesis of contemporary academic avant-garde, experimental music and free improvisation. Musicians fuse together different musical materials, expressions, innovative playing techniques, spontaneous and free solos, unpredictable and colorful stylistic waves and contrasts. Both of them can masterfully connect together free improvisations and academical music. Innovative, experimental and interesting ways of playing are gently fused together with shocking musical expressions, aggressive stylistic turns, strict form and structure and various composing techniques. Their music is full of contrasts – playful and vivacious solos are connected with strict, rigorous, aggressive, dramatic or silent and relaxing pieces. The main priorities of their playing are to create extraordinary and innovative sound. search for new timbres and musical expressions, extract strange and weird sounds and make a colorful and bright musical language. Both musicians had been playing together many times – one of them recently released albums was “Autumn Songs”, which also had vivacious, effective and interesting sound.
The music of their newest album has expressive and dynamic sound. The main elements of academic avant-garde – such as various forms of musical structure, dissonance harmony, modern ways of playing and colorful expressions – are connected together with free improvisation and experimental jazz. Polyphonic structure, independent and bright melodies, unusual timbres, weird sounds, sharp and aggressive harmony, mild intonations of serialism, puantilism, serialism, dodecaphony, even spectral and concrete music are connected together with free and spontaneous solos, brave and innovative musical experiments and free improvisations. Musicians have masterful ability to fuse all these absolutely different elements all together in one place. The music is full of dramatic and deep viola solos, expressive and emotional melodies of saxophone, clarinet and shakuhachi, dynamic and constantly changing rhythmic and all wide range of emotions and expressions. Wind instruments melodies are filled with expressive, wild fast and vivid solos, bright, vibrant and colorful melodies, rigorous blow outs, fascinating riffs and inventive instrumentation decisions. Viola melodies are deep and passionate – its repetitive and monotonic sounds and rhythms are gently combined together with especially vivacious, live, gorgeous and passionate solos. Loud, vibrant and turbulent solos, dramatic culminations, wide range of different moods and expressions also show the great influence of expressionism. This music is especially expressive, based on free, spontaneous and vivid playing and masterful synthesis between different music elements. Musicians are using huge variety of different playing techniques – glissando, pizzicato, various loud and vibrant blow outs, specific playing techniques and manners are gently combined together with experimental and innovative ways of playing. Musicians are associating theirr compositions with spring and are dedicated to create the sound which would reveal the moods and emotions of the spring – that’s clearly heard in their music. From the silent, calm, relaxing and peaceful solos music gets to dramatic, loud, expressive, dramatic, turbulent, vivacious and dynamic culminations, which also are colorfully illustrated with gorgeous sounds and timbres. The musical language of these compositions is difficult and made from many different layers – various scales, dissonance chords, dynamic or monotonic rhythmic, original and inventive musical decisions, expressions and playing techniques.
