“COR” will be released on January 26, 2018 by “PLAIST” records. Album was recorded by a group of interesting jazz musicians – Christian Lillinger (compositions, producer, drums), Jonas Westergaard (bass), Robert Landfermann (bass), Achim Kaufmann (piano, electric piano), Pierre Boret (saxophone), Tobias Delius (saxophone, clarinet) and Christopher Dell (vibraphone). The music by this ensemble is full of interesting souns, unusual and colorful timbres, innovative instrumentation, original synthesis between avant-garde jazz and experimental music. The musicians had been playing together many times before this one – unique sound, original playing manner, interesting and innovative improvising by each musician are mixed together in one place. Musicians are not avoiding innovative and astonishing musical experiments – they extract extraordinary and strange timbres, weird sounds and separate noises, which also are very important part of their improvisations. The improvisations played by this ensemble always are based on spontaneous and unpredictable musical decisions, surprises, sudden changes, astonishing and fascinating musical experiments.
The compositions of this album have interesting and extraordinary sound. It’s based on synthesis between avant-garde jazz, experimental jazz, various modern and contemporary jazz styles, also elements of electronic and experimental music. All these different music styles are effectively combined in one composition. This music has many different musical patterns and layers, which are based on different styles. Musicians are putting together the episodes, which are strongly contrasting with each other. Saxophones and clarinet improvisations by Pierre Boret and Tobias Delius are full of sudden stylistic twists, dynamic and expressive changes of musical language elements. Two improvisers melodies gently fit together – from very expressive, turbulent, free and rapid improvisations, music switches off to peaceful, silent, soft, lyrical episodes, which are based on abstract musical pattern. Unusual and weird timbres, powerful and turbulent blow outs, noisy and vibrant solos, extremely speedy and furious arpeggios, memorable and lyrical melodies – all these elements are just a part of these two musicians improvisations. Both of them can masterfully change the moods, characters, expressions and other musical language elements and create effective, solid, vivacious and expressive sound. Bass improvisations by other two interesting and experienced bassists Jonas Westergaard and Robert Landfermann highly differ from the reeds section. Subtle, peaceful and vibrant melodies, expressive and vivacious solos, separate and repetitive melodic or rhythmic episodes which have no connection with each other – all these basic elements create sound which is very similar to experimental and electronic music. Subtle, abstract, peaceful, lyric and extraordinary bass improvisations masterfully fit together with electronic piano sounds and the other instruments. Achim Kaufmann piano melodies are heard very brightly and clearly almost all the time. Expressive, loud and turbulent or restful and silent – these improvisations are always interesting and have effective sound. Pianist tries out many different playing techniques, he also masterfully synthesizes together acoustic and electronic music sounds. Solid and strong harmonic basic is also formed by piano. Dramatic, sharp and aggressive dissonances are fused together with silent, soft, relaxing and passionate consonances. All different types of rhythms, melodic elements, characters, moods and other elements are organically combined in one composition. The rhythm section and background are created by drums and vibraphone. Christian Lillinger and Christoopher Dell contrasting and expressive playing highly differs from each other. Loud, expressive and intensive drum rolls, virtuosic arpeggios, trills, furious and turbulent solos, static and monotonic rhythms are colorfully illustrated by gentle, colorful, gorgeous and vivacious vibraphone sounds. All different musical patterns and layers are masterfully combined in one place and because of impressive and astonishing improvising, have expressive and dynamic sound.
