Twins – “Twins” (Bridge Sessions Records, 2017)

“Twins” is one of the newest release of “Bridge Sessions Records”. Album was recorded by experimental jazz quartet “Twins”. The quartet members are experienced and talented jazz masters – Fred Jackson Jr (alto saxophone), Stéphane Payen (alto saxophone), Edward Perraud (drums, percussion) and  Frank Rosaly (drums, percussion). The musicians are improvising together for several years now. These compositions were recorded at Chicago Cultural Center and exploratory tour in Paris on April, 2013. The improvisations of musicians have extraordinary and interesting sound. The most part of them are based on many different music elements and expressions and playing techniques, spontaneous and evocative improvisations and dynamic stylistic waves. All four talented and creative musicians also demonstrate original and unique sound and improvising style in their compositions.

Album have 4 compositions. The music of the album has original and interesting sound. It’s based on various sound experiments, extended playing techniques using, spontaneous and unpredictable stylistic turns. This music sound is very dynamic and always changing. After soft and calm episodes there suddenly comes loud and wild blow outs, energetic and fast solos which can be named real bursts of energy. The mood in the most compositions is essentially created with many musical expressions. Virtuosic saxophones and drums solos, arpeggios, fast and powerful blow outs, loud drum rolls, wide range of percussion timbres and sounds are the main elements of these improvisations musical pattern. The improvisations sound very much depending of harmony which is very colorful, full of various consonances and dissonances. Musicians try to search and create an extraordinary and unpredictable sound. They use wide range of extended and innovative playing techniques for that. Traditional instrumentation is essentially combined with innovative and unusual ways of playing. This diversity of playing techniques helps musicians to create high variety of strange and unheard sounds and timbres. These improvisations are based on musical experiments which are used to create original and expressive sound. The musicians aren’t just a professional improvisers – they improvisations are very emotional and  dramatic, have expressive, interesting and evocative sound. Many spontaneous decisions are used in these compositions and all of them gently fit together with other musical pattern elements. Because of essentially and organic combination of various musical expressions, emotional and effective playing create original sound of this album.
