Rempis/Piet/Daisy – “Hit the Ground Running” (Aerophonic, 2017)

“Hit The Ground Running” – that’s a new experimental jazz album released this year by “Aerophonic Records”. The album had been recorded by three avant-garde jazz masters – Dave Rempis (tenor and alto saxophones), Matt Piet (piano) and Tim Daisy (drums). All three musicians are the legends of avant-garde jazz. They are famous for creative, wild and rigorous musical experiments, interesting and exclusive improvisations. They combine different music styles and musical expressions in their compositions. Through the years of creative activity musicians had been collaborated with many great avant-garde jazz masters, had concerts all over the world.

The album has 2 compositions. The compositions are based on collective improvisation and contrastic music elements combined together. The high variety of musical expressions and playing techniques are heard on these compositions. The musicians try out many different and innovative playing techniques and search for a new, unheard and strange sound timbres and noises. Wild, expressive and virtuosic melodies, high variety of drums and percussion rhytms, rigorous and contrastic piano improvisations – these elements are the basic of compositions. Interesting and dynamic sound of compositions also depends on colorful and sharp harmony which is based on various type and sound dissonances. Free and contrastic improvisations of talented jazz masters, gently combined variety of different music styles and expressions bring interesting and innovative sound to these compositions.
